Jerry Federle Memorial
Jerry Federle spent two decades as a teacher and also enjoyed an illustrious tenure as Elder's Baseball Coach. "Coach Feds" retired with a then-school record 229 wins. Feds' prolific teams captured District Titles in 1978, 1979, 1983, 1984 & 1987; going on to claim Regional Crowns in '78 '79, '84 & '87 and reaching the pinnacle by winning Ohio Division 1 State Championship in '78 & '84. Renowned for his motto "Defend As Champions," Jerry was inducted into the Ohio High School Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1993, and in 2006, was the recipient of Elder High School's distinguished Athletic Excellence Award as a member of the Elder community who "embraces the values of fair competition and whose tenacity and sacrifice have advanced the Elder athletic tradition.”
While it’s been decades since Jerry stepped inside a classroom at Elder or put on his #32, he never stopped being a teacher & coach. Life lessons instilled within the context of his English or Personal Motivation classes or while competing on the baseball diamond not only stayed with those young lives enriched, but also came into more clarity as they got older, maturing personally & professionally through their own life experiences.
Coach Feds’ spirit of Altiora, along with his beloved wife of 54 years, Bonnie (Hehemann), now spans three generations of the Federle Family, inclusive of their children: Scott - Elder Class of 1988, Todd - 1995 and Heather (Hutchinson), who followed in his footsteps as a teacher; and The Great Eight grandchildren: Liam - 2023, Quinn - 2027, Lily, JT, Morgan, Mya, Joseph and Carolyn.
Jerry passed away in April 2023 and through an immediate outpouring of support from family, friends, teaching and coaching colleagues, former students and players, this permanent scholarship was established in his name.
