Ed Kinney Memorial

Ed Kinney, Elder Class of 1969, loved life. Nothing much would stop him from fulfilling his dreams. In fact, his favorite quote was “Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence… ‘Press on’ has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race” (Calvin Coolidge). Ed was a great example of persistence and “pressed on” in his life even through very difficult times.

Ed attended Our Lady of Lourdes and went on, with several of his friends, to Elder High School. At Elder, he pursued his interest in art and made several lasting friendships. After graduating from the University of Cincinnati with a BS in accounting and a short stint at Great American Insurance, Ed began a long career with Hamilton County where he retired in 2005 as Hamilton County Assistant Treasurer.  In retirement, Ed expanded his baseball card collection, traveled, had roles as an extra in several local movies, and collected autographed baseballs from media stars to presidents.

If you were to ask Ed today what some of his greatest events were in his life, he would undoubtedly say it was the birth of his daughter, Lori, and granddaughter, Noël, as well as a long and wonderful 41-year marriage with his wife, Ruth Ann.

Ed passed away in September of 2022 after bouts with liver disease and pulmonary fibrosis. Several of Ed’s Elder classmates attended Ed’s funeral and his family was very grateful for their support.

Ed was active in his Catholic faith and appreciated the Catholic education that he received at Elder High School. This scholarship will enable young men in the community to experience the values and quality Catholic education that Ed had been fortunate to receive at Elder.
