Hoelker Family
The Hoelker Family Scholarship was created in 2021 to honor Ed and Helen (Meiners) Hoelker, Eddie ’41, Jack ’45, Bill ’52, and their sisters who graduated from Seton, Mary’42 (Bedinghaus) and Ruthann ’47 (Wernke).
The Hoelker family home was at 1028 Gilsey Avenue, immediately behind “The Pit” and on the 30-yard line. The Hoelker siblings remained close to the Elder/Seton community throughout their lives. Ed and Helen were strong believers in Catholic education and instilled the same in their children. Ever since, Hoelker children and grandchildren have walked the halls of Catholic grade schools and high schools throughout Cincinnati and in other parts of the country. With this endowed scholarship at Elder, there is now a Hoelker Family Scholarship at all four male GCL schools - Elder, LaSalle (under the Daniel Masur Memorial Scholarship), Moeller, and St. Xavier.
