Chris Burnhimer Memorial
Christopher Thomas Burnhimer, Elder class of 1983, was born in Price Hill and was the youngest of six children to Ray and Elaine Burnhimer. He attended St. Teresa of Avila grade school and Elder High School. He loved camping, music, writing songs, and hanging out with his friends. He was quick-witted like his dad, and his grade school and high school friends were his extended family.
In July of 1991, Chris took his own life. Because he had such an effect on his friends, they wanted to do something to memorialize him. They decided to start a scholarship fund at Elder in Chris’ name. They held annual golf scrambles to raise money, and this was especially poignant since Chris’ favorite golf game was Putt-Putt! Members of the Bedrock Volunteer Fire Department helped organize these well-attended and profitable fundraising events. In its fourth year, Chris’ golf scramble was believed to have raised more money than the Elder Alumni Golf Outing! After five years, enough money was raised to fund a permanently endowed scholarship and memorial donations for Chris are still being raised and go towards the growth of the fund. The fund is designated to be awarded to Elder students that attend St. Teresa grade school.
