Need for Scholarships
Elder’s graduates and friends have always recognized the unique values of an Elder education. In fulfilling the desire to perpetuate this opportunity to succeeding generations of young men, individuals, couples and classmates began creating permanent scholarships in the early 1980s. The donations are held intact with only the annual income used to award tuition assistance to Elder students.
Since that time, these funds have grown to over 260 individually named scholarships, thus providing increased support each year. Today, these endowed scholarships have grown to over $22 million.
We are extremely grateful to these donors who have provided scholarship opportunities for our students. The scholarship funds provide nearly $900,000 income for tuition assistance each year. Most are need-based and some have special designations.
Types of Scholarships
Annual
Some individuals prefer to make annual tax-deductible donations to provide tuition assistance for Elder students. These donations can be earmarked as renewable if the donor wishes to assist a young man over his four years at Elder by making repeated annual donations.
Endowed
Permanent scholarships can be created through a gift to Elder High School or to The Altiora Fund. Creating a permanent scholarship can be done through a cash gift or as part of an estate plan naming Elder High School or The Altiora Fund as the recipient of the proceeds. Over 260 permanently-endowed scholarships have been formed at Elder ranging in size from $30,000 to over $1 million.
