This yearly stroll through "Elder Country" is a major fundraiser for our students, with 80% of the proceeds benefiting our tuition assistance program and 20% donated to other charitable organizations. Prior to the Walk, students are asked to collect sponsorships from family, friends, neighbors, local businesses...whomever would like to donate to the cause! There are four ways to donate: cash, check, and by credit card online or via your smartphone. Scroll to the bottom of this page for more information.
HISTORY OF THE WALK FOR OTHERS
The very first "Walk for Elder" was held on May 4, 1975, a brainchild of Student Council. Over 1,000 students, accompanied by many grade school children and students from Seton and Mercy high schools joined in the 20-mile effort that day. The event raised close to $21,000.
The Walk went through a couple transformations over the first 5-6 years and by 1980, it had been renamed as the "Walk for Others" and the route was reduced to 20 kilometers (about 12 miles). It was also rescheduled to take place annually in the fall due to spring weather concerns. The Walk has remained this way ever since, and while the name and mileage may have changed, the purpose has always remained the same: to raise money in support of our tuition assistance program and for other charitable organizations.
Did you know? About 60% of current Elder students receive some type of financial aid.
Some of the charities who have benefited from Elder's Walk for Others include: Aubrey Rose Foundation, Bethany House, Contact Center, CRC-Miracle League, Healthy Moms & Babes, Holy Family Food Pantry, Imago for Earth, Literacy Network of Greater Cincinnati, Our Daily Bread, Price Hill Will, Santa Maria Community Services, Tender Mercies, and Western Wildlife Corridor.
The 2017 Walk for Others will take place on Friday, March 17th. Our school goal is to raise $70,000!
All students are expected to participate and collect a minimum of $40 in total pledges. Last year, 375 students collected $90 or more! Prizes are given to students from each grade who turn in the most amount of sponsorships. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Brian Bill at (513) 921-3411 or email@example.com.
