College & Career Presentations

 

The College and Career Presentations are workshops designed for parents and students to help you navigate the sometimes confusing pathway to college and/or career. They are typically designed to address the concerns particular to a grade level.

All workshops will be held at 7:00 PM in the Schaeper Center.


2017-2018 College and Career Presentations

 

September:  Financial Aid Workshop : Wednesday, September 27
This workshop is for parents and students of all grades.  Jodi Ermano, a representative from Summit College Funding will talk about the financial aid process, forms, deadlines, tricky questions and what to expect.  Sign up online


October:  College Planning for Seniors - Q & A Panel: Tuesday, October 10
This event will have several different admissions representatives to answer commonly asked questions about the college process, applying, scholarships, etc… Some of the schools that will be represented are: University of Cincinnati, The Ohio State University, Northern Kentucky University, Thomas More College & University of South Carolina.


November: College Planning Night for Juniors : Tuesday, November 21
Juniors and their parents will have the opportunity to choose four of nine mini-workshops (either together or separately) Each workshop topic will be presented by a college admission representative and/or Elder’s Guidance Staff:

  1. Building a College List “Finding your Fit” / Making College Visits
  2. ACT/SAT
  3. Choosing a Major/Career vs. Undecided
  4. Scholarships & Financial Aid
  5. Application Process - Letters of Recommendation / Writing the Essay / Transcript / Test Scores
  6. Common App vs.  individual school applications
  7. First Time Parents
  8. Community College – 2 year options
  9. NCAA eligibility

Representatives from the following colleges/universities will be in attendance: Cincinnati State, Thomas More College, Mount St. Joseph University, Marian University, University of South Carolina, University of Cincinnati, Miami University, and The Ohio State University.

PLEASE NOTE: The evening will begin with a mini college fair, starting at 5:45pm. All of the colleges/universities that will be represented at the Junior College Night will be in attendance at the mini college fair. The program will then begin around 6:30pm and go until about 8:30pm.  Coming to the fair prior to the evening starting is optional.


September-December:  College Visits
College representatives visit Elder throughout the first semester. These are intended for juniors and seniors.  The dates and times are always posted on Naviance.  If a parent would like to attend, please contact Mrs. Lind to reserve a spot.
