Every summer, select members of Elder's cross country team visit Indian River, Michigan to participate in a preseason camp. During the summer of 2016, the team was visiting the Cross in the Woods Church where they met Dan and Rhonda McCloskey (center). The couple complimented Elder's coaches on how respectful and kind the runners are and then volunteered to cook the whole team (40+ people) dinner the following year.
"Had the opportunity to say 'hi' to some of your runners here in Indian River and I just want to compliment your school, the teachers and the coach that was here with them on what a great bunch of young men! My wife has offered to cook them all a meal next year so we will see them again."
This year, Mr. & Mrs. McCloskey reached out to the team and together they planned to host dinner at the Cross in the Woods Church. The McCloskeys cooked up what every runner loves -- a big Italian meal -- and then joined the team as they dined. They were also joined by the pastor of the church and a fellow priest in the parish.
As a way of saying "thanks," the team gave the McCloskeys two camp t-shirts. The couple then promised to cook dinner for the team again next year!
